While Syria was signing an Arab League peace plan aimed at ending months of bloodshed, more than 100 people died in various incidents across the country.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 60 army deserters were shot dead. Forty civilians were also killed in the continuing crackdown.
The deal signed in Cairo paves the way for Arab League observers to monitor Syria’s compliance with a deal which calls for troops to be withdrawn from city centres and political prisoners to be freed. An advance party is due on the ground this week.
But as unconfirmed footage showed the latest funeral in Homs, Syria’s opposition claimed President Bashar al-Assad has no intention of honouring the agreement.
